Brief information:
- What is Nature’s Ice Palace?
It’s a walkable crevasse with magical ice stalactites, huge sparkling ice crystals, frozen waterfalls and even a glacial lake. - Where is it?
In the Zillertal, Tyrol - opening hours
Open all year. For children from 6 years of age, daily without prior notice from 10.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. (every hour) - Entry:
Adults € 26.00 / children up to 11 years € 13.00 – The ascent and descent with glacier buses 1, 2 and 3 is not included in the admission price!
The Natur Eis Palast on the Hintertux Glacier should not be missing on any visit to the Zillertal. The advantage: It is open all year round, regardless of the weather. Nevertheless, we recommend a visit when the weather is good, as otherwise you have nothing of the view on the panoramic terrace. After all, you also have to pay for the trip up. In 2021, the ride with the gondola costs € 40 and the Nature Ice Palace itself will cost another € 26.
The entrance to the ice cave is only a 5-minute walk from the mountain station of Glacier Bus 3. Actually, the cave can only be visited with a guided tour, but this is different when we arrive: September is the post-season and it is Corona time. We are allowed to explore the cave alone from the entrance. You can’t get lost, by the way, as the path is narrow and only goes in one direction.
In the Nature Ice Palace there is a constant temperature of 0 ° degrees 365 days a year. You should definitely wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes, ideally hiking boots or ski boots. Otherwise you feel like other visitors we have observed: due to the lack of sturdy shoes, they had to slide their butts to get to the entrance of the cave.
In the accessible crevasse you can expect magical ice stalactites, huge sparkling ice crystals, frozen waterfalls and even a glacial lake – for us personally the highlight of the tour.
There are still a lot of special tours that must be booked in advance, for example:
- Stand up paddling
- Exclusive photo tour
- Scientific leadership
- Kayak & ice climbing
- Ice swimming
- World record shaft
