Tyrol: A weekend at the Stanglwirt

Tyrol: A weekend at the Stanglwirt

Most Austrians are familiar with the Green Spa Resort Stanglwirt. Even if you have never visited the hotel and therefore cannot fully classify it, the name is somewhere in the back of everyone’s mind. I know it from somewhere …

At the latest when the terms Weißwurstparty, Kitzbühel or Hahnenkamm are mentioned, the penny also falls here. Hardly any Austrian can get past the ski event of the year and thus also not the almost equally famous white sausage party at the Stanglwirt, at which even world stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger attend.

We wanted to know why the Stanglwirt is so popular and were able to spend a weekend there.

Directions / arrival

The Stanglwirt is located in the municipality of Going am Wilden Kaiser in Tyrol, surrounded by breathtaking nature. You can hardly miss the traditional business (they have been welcoming their guests for over four centuries), after all, the area now has an area of 120,000m²! Every guest has enough space there.

The rooms

As in every resort, there are different categories, here there are double rooms, family rooms, studios and suites. We immediately notice how close to nature everything is designed. Grass on the roofs and the elevator that leads to the room is made of wood. In the room, too, many elements are made from local stone pine. The furniture is made of solid wood, the bathrobes and towels are made of terrycloth and pure cotton, all carpets are made of the highest quality sheep’s wool and all duvets and fitted sheets are made of the finest linen. You come in and feel good straight away.

We also have a fantastic view of the Wilder Kaiser!

Prices start from € 230 for 2 people in a double room including breakfast. But there is already a lot there. All services listed here in the report are included!

We explore the facility. What we immediately notice are the many swimming pools. These are divided into 2 worlds, those for families and those for those seeking peace and quiet. We start with the family:

Family wellness world

Felsenbad (Rock pool- indoor and outdoor pool)

The ambience of this bath is unique. You feel like you are in a grotto. The waterfall splashes softly. The water here is 32 degrees. As soon as you enter this room, pure relaxation sets in. The highlight of the rock pool is that you can swim outside regardless of the season. Outside you have a perfect view of the area and the Wilder Kaiser.

Rock bath, sauna and whirlpool

This room is located next to the indoor rock pool, where your sauna heart beats faster. You should definitely try the large whirlpool.

Tip: be sure to go upstairs and try one of the loungers. Here, too, you have a wonderful view of the Wilder Kaiser through huge glass panes. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet, regardless of the weather outside.

Well, we have to admit, we came with our 2 year old. There is not much time for relaxation. But the more helpful is the….

Children’s water world

Every child’s dream. There are several small pools indoors, of course at a distance from the guests who are looking for peace and quiet. The pools all have different depths, so there is something for every age. For the very little ones there is a small slide, for the bigger ones there is a pool with currents that turns into a kind of huge whirlpool.

The highlight, however, is certainly the 120-meter-long large water slide. The course record here is an unbelievable 13 seconds. Hard to imagine, since it took me about 19 seconds and even that felt extremely fast. This slide is not only a real adventure for children.

In the outdoor area you will also find the Stanglwirt SPA with beauty & massage (for a fee) and the outdoor family sports pool.

Wellness world for those seeking peace and quiet

It is much more relaxingin this area.

There is a brine pool with 36° as well as a 25m professional swimming pool with time measurement with a quiet zone in front.

We found the natural bathing lake with 517 m² to be particularly beautiful.

There is another whisper zone here and if you like, you can even go to the textile-free sauna world. Of course, we took the photos when there wasn’t a single guest here early in the morning.

We found the rock crystal steam bath (50 ° C) here particularly inviting. The waterfall grotto is also unique, but unfortunately it doesn’t look as good in the photos as it does in real life. You feel like you are in the jungle.

We leave the water world and want to explore the area further. Somewhat out of the way, we come across the children’s farm.

Children’s farm

Children will find entertainment here. They can do handicrafts, play, pet and feed bunnies, jump in the haystack, and do everything children love about farms.

Man kann die Kinder hier nach Voranmeldung sogar abgeben! Hätte man uns das nur etwas früher gesagt 😉 Unser Nachwuchs war jedenfalls kaum von hier wieder wegzubringen.

What else is there at the Stanglwirt?

Just too much to be able to accommodate everything in one weekend. Many services are included services and do not cost anything extra (like the ones mentioned above). You can find a detailed overview here.

Other special services such as tennis courses, fishing or riding Lipizzaner horses naturally cost extra.

Here are a few examples of what else there is:

  • An award-winning 14-court tennis village
  • Award-winning Golf Sport Academy Stanglwirt (chargeable) with driving ranch (free of charge)
  • In-house Lipizzaner stud / riding arena
  • Boxing ring (the Klitschkos train here more often)
  • Fitness garden
  • Exercise room
  • Your own Stangl Alm with cheese dairy
  • An in-house bowling alley
  • Verschiedene Restaurants (wir empfehlen jenes mit einzigartigem Kuhstall Blick 😊)
  • E-bike rental

Here are a few more impressions:

If someone should miss something, the Stanglwirt also offers a wide range of courses and excursion options such as yoga, Nordic walking, climbing, hiking, mountain biking and more.

Does the Stanglwirt also have disadvantages?

We found a small one. The program and entertainment are so varied that it was really difficult for us to leave the resort. But there are countless places worth seeing in the area. But we will probably make an extra blog post about this.
