Luxury and tradition in the heart of Lech – our experience report from the Hotel Gasthof Post
Arrival at the Post – a 5-star hotel full of alpine elegance
We spent three nights in the traditional Hotel Gasthof Post in Lech. Upon arrival, you will feel the special atmosphere: The hotel combines alpine elegance with loving hospitality and warm service – a blend of "family luxury" and the highest quality. The location is ideal: right in the center of Lech, just a few steps from Rüfiplatz. The bus station is about 300 meters from the main entrance—perfect if you're traveling without a car or want to explore the region by bus.
Day 1 – Moving in and culinary highlights
After the friendly welcome we received a exclusive tour of the houseWe learned that none of the 46 rooms and suites are alike – each one is unique, furnished with antiques and many lovingly crafted details. Our "Postillion Room" offered approximately 40 square meters, a cozy living/sleeping area with a tiled stove, a walk-in closet, and a spacious bathroom with a bathtub.
In the evening, the first culinary highlight awaited us in the Panorama Restaurant PostblickChef Michael Volcanjsek combines regional products with international accents and creates menus that should be enjoyed at your leisure – for dinner you should Plan for about two hours. The legendary wine list: Around 14,000 bottles are stored in the in-house wine cellar, including rarities, classics, and treasures that are known far beyond the Arlberg. 19 times in a row, the "Post" has been awarded the "Best of the Year" by the renowned Wine Spectator excellent – a clear sign of exceptional quality.
We spent the evening in the Bemelmans Bar which delights with an elegant atmosphere and creative drinks.
Day 2 – Lakes, afternoon tea and wellness
The day began with a hearty breakfast: fresh rolls, homemade jams, regional cheeses, and egg dishes made to order—all in the light-filled panoramic restaurant with mountain views.
Strengthened, we set off on an excursion:
- For the Formarinsee (1,793 m), which was voted Austria's most beautiful place in 2015. The crystal-clear water reflects the surrounding mountains, and a comfortable path leads from the local bus stop to the lake.
- Continue to Spullersee (1,810 m), a 50-hectare reservoir framed by peaks. Hiking trails and fishing spots make it a popular destination.
In the afternoon we returned to the post office and took the Afternoon tea in the Hubertushalle or in the Ebra Park The spacious hotel garden, with its alpine flora and plenty of seating, is ideal for relaxation.
Afterwards, the wellness area awaited: The 15-meter-long outdoor pool is heated all year round and offers a fantastic view of the Omeshorn. Our son loved the own children's pool with slide, pleasantly warm and in a separate area so that other guests remain undisturbed. While he played, we took turns to have a 50-minute massageIn addition to classic full-body and partial massages, we also offer lymphatic drainage and La Stone treatments using high-quality products from Cellcosmet.
In the evening we once again enjoyed a multi-course meal in the panoramic restaurant.
Day 3 – Lake Zürs, sauna and culinary diversity
After breakfast we set off for Lake Zürs (2,144 m). The high mountain lake is located above Zürs and can be reached on foot or by bus. The one-hour walk around the lake rewards with crystal-clear water and a magnificent mountain backdrop.
Since the weather was brilliant, we spent the early afternoon in the Lech Forest Pool – the pleasantly warm water made the visit a special pleasure, even in late summer.
In the afternoon, we headed to the hotel's sauna oasis. We unwinded in the 90°C sauna, the saltwater steam bath with an outdoor grotto, and the cozy relaxation rooms with tea and refreshments. Afterwards, our son headed to the children's area – the pleasantly warm pool with a slide made him beam with delight.
For dinner we returned to the Panorama Restaurant Postblick where we enjoyed a multi-course meal. The Post also offers other options: the Jägerstube (hunter's room) with its hunting lodge atmosphere in winter, the rustic Emostube (eating fondue chinoise and classic dishes), or the Kutscherstube (coachman's room) for half-board guests. In fine weather, the sun terrace invites you to enjoy coffee and cake. We rounded off the evening in the Bemelmans Bar with a glass of wine or cocktail – the perfect end to the evening.
Day 4 – Farewell and final experiences
After our last breakfast, we used the morning for excursions. The Skyspace Lech by James Turrell in Oberlech or a ride on the cable car up to the plaster holes, a karst area with over 1,000 sinkholes. A particularly beautiful finale: the Körbersee at an altitude of 1,600 meters. The approximately 45-minute hike is worth it – the crystal-clear water reflects the mighty Widderstein, and a hut invites you to enjoy a snack.
