The eagle arena at Landskron Castle delights visitors with impressive bird of prey flight shows in front of a breathtaking backdrop. High above Villach Located in the heart of the city, the arena offers a unique opportunity to see majestic eagles, falcons and other birds of prey in action. An exciting experience for the whole family, which teaches interesting facts about the art of falconry and the protection of these fascinating animals.
The castle is located high on a hill. You can choose to either park at the bottom or pay a 3.8€ toll and drive up. We opt for the latter. By the way, next to the Landskron Castle is also the monkey mountainThis way you can cover 2 sights with the same parking space.
The highlight of the Adlerarena is the 40-minute bird of prey flight show. These take place three times a day from Monday to Saturday, namely at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00. On Sundays and public holidays there is an additional show at 17:00.
During the flight show, you can learn interesting facts about the birds. Incidentally, most of them are injured animals that would have died in the wild. A special breeding station nurses them back to health.
Some birds are free, so it can happen that they don't show up for several days or even weeks.
The show is quite impressive and is particularly popular with children. Various birds of prey and even an owl fly through the castle arena. The tour through the castle and past the cages is rather mediocre. The animals don't really seem to be free in the cages.
