Alpbach lies at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level in the Kitzbühel Alps and is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Tyrol. The uniform wooden architecture and lush floral splendor characterize the townscape, which has received numerous awards. In addition to its picturesque appearance, the town is also known for the European Forum Alpbach, which has attracted international guests for decades. Hikers, families, and culture enthusiasts will find a wide range of activities here.
Short info:
The timber construction style is Alpbach's hallmark. Since a 1953 regulation, all new buildings from the first floor upwards have been required to be clad in wood. This creates a harmonious and authentic townscape, further enhanced by numerous floral decorations. Alpbach has received recognition for this not only in Austria but also at the European level.
The European Forum Alpbach – an interdisciplinary symposium for science, politics, business, and culture – has been held here since 1945. During the forum, a very special atmosphere prevails in the village, as thousands of international participants and speakers exchange ideas against the mountain backdrop. The modern Congress Center contrasts with the traditional village center and offers modern infrastructure.
St. Oswald's Church was built in the 14th century and later remodeled in the Baroque style. It forms the spiritual center of the village. The cemetery, with its ornately wrought grave crosses, is particularly impressive and is considered one of the most beautiful in Tyrol. Its location above the village also offers a magnificent view.
The Alpbach Valley offers more than 500 km of marked hiking trails. Particularly recommended:
In winter, Alpbach is part of the Ski Juwel ski area with over 110 kilometers of slopes. The valley station of the Wiedersbergerhornbahn cable car is close to the village. There are numerous blue and red slopes, dedicated children's areas, and ski courses for beginners. From the mountain station, you can enjoy an impressive panorama of the Zillertal and Kitzbühel Alps.
For children, the Lauserland on the Wiedersberger Horn is exciting – a large play park with a climbing tower, water games and a giant slide. Right next to it is the Lauser-Sauser, a year-round toboggan run. Juppi Magic Forest in Reith in the Alpbachtal offers interactive stations, nature trails and play areas.
