Directly at the Reichsbrücke in Vienna, the CopaBeach and Pier 22 invite you to spend relaxing hours on the New Danube. While the CopaBeach on the Donau City side scores with sandy areas, deckchairs and street food, on the opposite side you will find Danube Island Modern wooden decks, relaxation areas, and water access. Don't expect a classic sandy beach here—the areas are more reminiscent of large, well-designed sand and sunbathing areas with an urban flair.
Pier 22 is a newly designed leisure area on the Danube Island, directly next to the U1 Donauinsel station. The approximately 13,000 m² area was developed in several construction phases and offers:
The Café Pier22, which offers bowls, cakes, coffee, and small meals. The offerings are complemented by seasonal food trucks such as "Sokrates" (Greek) and "Extrawürstel." A larger island restaurant with a Mediterranean focus is planned for summer 2026.
We got a very tasty pita from the food truck of the Greek restaurant “Sokrates”.
On the opposite bank, right next to Donau City, is CopaBeach – a popular meeting place on warm days and evenings. Instead of a traditional beach, you'll find fine sand, palm-lined ambiance, and a diverse range of restaurants. Along approximately 500 meters of waterfront, you can relax in loungers or indulge in culinary delights at various stalls.
As of summer 2025, the following restaurants are represented:
You'll also find recreational activities here, such as yoga, boxing training, and a photo bus. Access to the water is possible, but there's no traditional beach with a shallow entry – the swimming area is directly on the shore or embankments.
