Animal world – experience diversity up close

The Cumberland Wildlife Park is home to around 500 animals from more than 70 species. In addition to native wild animals such as lynx, ibexes and deer, visitors can also observe more exotic species such as raccoons, bison and red-crowned cranes. The large enclosure for bears and wolves is particularly fascinating, as it provides a deep insight into the behavior of these animals.

However, since the enclosures are quite spacious, please don't expect to always see all the animals! The enclosures offer plenty of places to retreat.

Special animal species in the wildlife park:

  • brown bear
  • lynx
  • Raccoon (in winter it hibernates, but you can watch it through the glass pane)
  • European bison
  • Capricorn
  • Red-crowned crane
  • otter
  • snowy owl
  • Red-breasted Goose

A special highlight is the pet area, where children can get up close and personal with fluffy rabbits, curious young goats or hungry sheep. Animal encounters here are guaranteed to be unforgettable.

paths and rest areas

The wildlife park is accessible via barrier-free circular trails that extend over a total of 4.7 kilometers. They lead through forests, meadows and along idyllic ponds, where numerous bird species such as grey geese and bald ibises can be observed.

About halfway along the trail, you will find the "Jausenplatz`l" at the Kasbachteich. On sunny weekends and during the holiday season, you can refresh yourself with ice cream and drinks here. For a short break, there are also rest areas, such as at the moose enclosure, where coffee and drinks are available from vending machines.

Playground – fun for the little ones

After a relaxing stroll through the park, the youngest visitors can let off steam on the spacious playground. This is located in the immediate vicinity of the "Wildparkstüberl", so that parents and supervisors can keep an eye on the children playing.

The play equipment is designed to be close to nature and encourages creative play. In addition to a bear cave, there is a ladder swing, a large sandpit for digging for mammoth bones, and balancing and spinning options.

culinary delights in the self-service restaurant

At the beginning or end (check the opening times) of a relaxing hike, the wildlife park's self-service restaurant invites you to take an enjoyable break. There are 75 seats in the restaurant and around 200 more in the garden. The team spoils guests with homemade dishes, refreshing drinks, coffee and delicious pastries.

Following the motto "From the region for the region", the restaurant places great emphasis on using regional products from the Almtal. From pastries to meat and sausage products to beer, the ingredients come from local producers. This regional connection makes the dishes an authentic experience of the Salzkammergut.

The dishes are really very good value for money and tasted really good (in our case, venison ragout, cabbage rolls and spaghetti bolognese). We hadn't seen raspberry soda for 1/2 liter for 2.20€ (winter 2024/25) for a long time 🙂
