Donauturm Vienna – A landmark with views, culinary delights and adrenaline

At 252 meters, the Danube Tower is Austria's tallest building and offers a unique panoramic view of Vienna and far beyond. It stands in the middle of the extensive Danube Park, which was built during the Vienna International Garden Show in 1964. In addition to its observation deck, the tower boasts revolving restaurants, a spectacular slide, and even a urinal with a panoramic view 😉

Short info:

  • What can you see from above? 360° view of the whole of Vienna, up to 80 km visibility
  • How do you get there? U1 to VIC or U6 to Neue Donau, then about 15 minutes on foot
  • How much does the entrance fee cost? About 20€, here you can find all prices as well as Combination tickets.
  • How fast is the lift? 6.2 m/s, 35 seconds to the platform
  • Is there a restaurant? Two revolving restaurants & a pub on the ground floor
  • Is the tower barrier-free? Yes, fully equipped with elevators

The best overview of Vienna

From the all-glass platform at a height of 150 m you have an impressive view of Vienna, the Kahlenberg, the Danube basin and, if the weather is good, even as far as the Schneeberg or to Bratislava. The indoor terrace ensures that the view is not lost even in bad weather.

The ride in the express elevator is an experience in itself: At a speed of 6.2 m/s, you'll ascend in just 35 seconds. Since its modernization in 2018, you can experience a light show inside the tower through viewing windows in the elevator roof.

Around 420,000 people visit the Danube Tower each year, staying for an average of 108 minutes. And another charming statistic: An average of six marriage proposals take place here per week—so if you want to say "I do" at sunset in the tower restaurant, you're not alone.

Culinary delights above the rooftops of the city

High above Vienna the Tower Café (160 m) and the Tower Restaurant (170 m) slowly in a circle – so you automatically get a panoramic view while eating. Depending on the time of day, one rotation takes between 29 and 52 minutes.

The Turm Restaurant offers fine dining—a particularly atmospheric experience in the evenings. The Turm Café is a bit more relaxed and ideal for coffee and pastries.

On the ground floor there is also the Donaubräu, a modern inn with a beer garden, regional cuisine and home-brewed beer.

The highest slide in Europe

Since October 2023, one of Europe's tallest slides has been located at the Danube Tower. The spectacular entry point is at a height of 165 meters, and you slide 40 meters to the platform at a height of 150 meters. In just 7-9 seconds, you reach speeds of up to 18 km/h.
We tried it out – the adrenaline rush is guaranteed! With a slide bag, you can go into the tunnel that runs along the outside of the tower. The fun costs an extra €6 and is suitable for adults and brave children alike.

Restrooms with a view

A funny detail that's memorable: The men's restroom near the platform offers a direct view of Vienna through a glass front. Standing here probably offers the best view while washing your hands—or even beyond—in all of Austria.
