The Ernst Fuchs Museum in Vienna is a true treasure for art lovers. It houses an impressive collection of works by the Austrian artist (draftsman, painter, sculptor and architect) Ernst Fuchs, who became known primarily for his surrealist paintings.

The story

Otto Wagner had the Art Nouveau building he designed built between 1886 and 1888 as a summer residence on the edge of the Vienna Woods. Otto Wagner and his children lived in the villa themselves until 1911, when they finally sold it. In 1972, the painter Ernst Fuchs bought the property for the then 14 million schillings, had the villa renovated and adapted, and set up his studio here. It was personally designed and furnished by Ernst Fuchs, which gives the museum a very special atmosphere.

The museum today

In the exhibition rooms, countless works by Ernst Fuchs can be seen, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, stained glass and much more. The works are sorted by theme and provide an insight into the artist's various creative periods. Fuchs sat here Placido Domingo, Oskar Werner and Falco Model. A highlight of the museum is certainly the "Apocalypse Cycle," a series of 24 large-format paintings that depict the Book of Revelation in a striking manner.

Also worth seeing is the fountain complex with fountain house and fountain in the Byzantine style in the park. The Moses fountain is covered with colorful, shiny Tiffany glass mosaic. In addition to the works of Ernst Fuchs, there are also changing exhibitions by other artists who deal with themes such as surrealism, mysticism and esotericism. Anyone in Vienna who is interested in art should not miss a visit to the Ernst Fuchs Museum. It is a unique and fascinating experience that you will not soon forget.
