history of the castle
The castle was built in the 14th century and was originally owned by the Mattersdorf family. In 1622 it became the property of the Esterházy family, who used it as a treasury and representative building. The mighty armory, which houses one of the largest collections of weapons and armor in Europe, is particularly impressive.
