The location of Gmünd directly on the border with the Czech Republic gives the city a special historical and cultural significance. After the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy, a part of Gmünd, known as Böhmzeil, the present-day city of České Velenice, was ceded to the Czech Republic. This cross-border character shapes the city to this day and makes it a living example of the eventful history of Central Europe.
We found it particularly practical that the shops in the Czech part of Gmünd were open on Sundays. It was no problem to quickly buy a few screws in the Haihang Shopping Center. There is also an excellent Chinese quarter with good restaurants on the side.
