The most famous motif of Gmunden is undoubtedly the Seeschloss Ort, picturesquely situated on a small island in Lake Traunsee. Founded in the 10th century, it is now accessible via a 123-meter-long wooden bridge. The castle gained international fame through the television series "Schlosshotel Orth" and is now a popular venue for weddings and cultural events. Inside, there is a registry office, and the courtyard hosts exhibitions and concerts. Directly adjacent is the Ort Castle, which houses a restaurant and a museum.

The heart of the city beats around the town hall square. historic town hall with its ceramic carillon is a popular photo spot. The lakeside promenade begins right next to it and runs along the shore, offering beautiful views of the lake and mountains. Cafés and benches along the way invite you to linger. Those who wish can take a boat ride or hop on the Gmunden tram.

The City Museum is located in the historic Kammerhof in the center of Gmunden. Here you can learn more about the history of Gmunden, salt production, and the TraunseeParticularly curious: the exhibition "Klo & So – Sanitary Museum" with around 400 exhibits from the history of the bathroom, including a toilet that once belonged to Empress Elisabeth.

The Roman Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary is Gmunden's oldest church, dating back to the 13th century. Particularly impressive are its late Gothic ribbed vault and Baroque high altar. The church is slightly elevated above the town center, giving it a striking presence in the cityscape. In addition to its religious significance, it is also an architecturally interesting destination for visitors.

The Gmunden Ceramics Manufactory is one of the oldest operating ceramics factories in Europe and has been the city's flagship for centuries. Its hand-applied green flamed decoration is particularly well-known. Visitors can experience the production process up close. The shop offers a wide selection of products. Guided tours are available year-round.

The Grünberg cable car takes you up to 984 m above sea level in just a few minutes. From here you not only have an impressive view of the Traunsee, but also numerous hiking opportunities:
A special highlight is the 1,400 m long Treetop Walk Salzkammergut, which leads through the treetops and culminates in a 39-meter-high tower with panoramic views. Children will enjoy the 75-meter-long tunnel slide.
In Gmunden there are several recommended restaurants that offer regional specialties and freshly caught fish. A special highlight is the Fishmaster at the Lehenaufsatz, a small stand at the end of the Esplanade in Gmunden. Depending on the weather, grilled fish such as trout and mackerel are offered here from the beginning of April to the beginning of October. Opening hours vary greatly depending on the season.
