Haag City Zoo – Experience animals up close

The Haag City Zoo is one of Austria's largest and most beautiful zoos and is located in the extensive park of Salaberg Castle. Since its opening in 1973, it has continued to develop and now offers more than 700 animals from around 70 speciesParticularly impressive are the spacious and natural enclosures, which offer the animals plenty of space and at the same time provide visitors with great insights. In addition to the animal world, the park also impresses with varied playgrounds, gastronomic offerings and even the opportunity to go fishing.

Wildlife in the Haag City Zoo

The Tierpark Stadt Haag houses an impressive variety of animals, from native wild animals to exotic big cats to farm animals that can be petted and fed.

Predators – The Stars of the Park

Particularly popular are the Brown bears, lions, tigers, pumas and North China leopards, which are housed in spacious enclosures. Lynxes and wolves can be observed – they often rest in shady corners, but with a little patience you can see them in action.

Hoofed animals and petting zoo

A highlight for children are the Alpacas, llamas, goats and ponies, which can often be petted in the walk-in enclosures. Other hoofed animals in the park:

Feeding animals

In the Tierpark Stadt Haag you can €3,- special pet food to feed goats, sheep, and other animals. But beware: By the afternoon, many animals are already full and show little interest in the food. If you really want to experience feeding, you should visit the park first thing in the morning. Bringing your own food is not permitted.

Playgrounds for all ages

The zoo is particularly family-friendly designed. There is a playground right at the entrance, which is ideal for small children. The largest adventure playground However, it is located at the northern end of the lake near the buffet. Here you can find:

Fishing in the zoo – an insider tip!

If you are looking for a special activity, you can Fishing in the 6500 m² Jochteich. Info:

  • Registration with the pond keeper required
  • Net and bucket available free of charge
  • Rental fishing rods: €5 per day
  • Freshly caught fish can be purchased (e.g.. Rainbow trout or char for €15.50/kg)
  • Releasing the fish is prohibited!

The zoo can be reached by car and public transport.

Insider tips for your visit

Come in the morning! The animals are then more active and feeding them is more worthwhile.

Note the parking situation: If you arrive at noon, you may have to spend longer looking for a free parking space.

Use the playground: A longer stay at the large adventure playground is particularly worthwhile for families.
