Hirschegg: Charming holiday resort in Kleinwalsertal

Hirschegg is idyllically located in the Kleinwalsertal and offers a wide range of leisure activities in both summer and winter. Surrounded by impressive mountain scenery, the town is a perfect starting point for hikes, bike tours and winter sports. With its quiet atmosphere and cozy accommodation, the town invites you to spend relaxing days in the Alps.

Short info:

  • Where is Hirschegg? In Kleinwalsertal, Vorarlberg (not to be confused with Hirschegg in Styria)
  • What is there to see? The parish church of St. Anna, the Austrian Alps.
  • What can you experience? Hirschegg is a perfect starting point for hikers and cyclists. In winter it is a ski area.

Hirschegg is one of 3 villages in Vorarlberg Kleinwalsertal, next to Mittelberg and pinion gearsThe Walsertal covers an area of 97 km². It is about 15 km long and about 6.5 km wide. A total of 5,000 people live in the Kleinwalsertal. Hirschegg is located at an altitude of 1122 meters above sea level.

In summer

In summer, the surrounding mountains turn into a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers. Numerous well-marked hiking trails starting from Hirschegg lead through blooming alpine meadows and dense forests and offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps.

In winter

In winter, the town delights winter sports enthusiasts with its direct access to ski areas suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. Skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing are just some of the activities that can be enjoyed in the snowy landscape. Thanks to the modern lifts and proximity to the slopes, Hirschegg is a popular destination for ski tourists.

In addition to sporting activities, Hirschegg also offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the mountain village. Small cafes, traditional inns and cozy accommodations invite you to unwind after an active day in nature. For families, there is also a wide range of child-friendly activities and excursion destinations in the area.

The accessibility

The special thing about this Austrian valley is that it can only be reached by car via Germany. To get to the “rest” of Austria, you either have to hike or take a 45km car journey.
For this reason, even before the introduction of the euro, the only currency in Kleinwalsertal was the D-Mark.

The place

In the town center of Hirschegg Here you will find the very beautiful parish church of St. Anna, which is visible from almost every point in the area. Not far from there is also the elementary school with kindergarten and a large public children's playground and the Walserhaus directly on the village square.
The valley station of the Parsennbahn is also located in the village.

Another highlight is the Ifenbahn, which we of course tested for you have.

Of course there are some hotels in Hirschegg, including the Ifen Hotel Kleinwalsertal
