The History of the Hofgarten

The Court Garden was created in the 15th century and served as an imperial garden for the Habsburgs. Originally designed as a Renaissance garden, the Court Garden underwent several redesigns over the centuries and was designed in the Baroque style, among other things. In the 19th century, the garden finally took on its current form as a landscape garden in the English style.

Emperor Maximilian I and Empress Maria Theresa in particular used the court garden as a place of retreat and for their walks. Today, numerous old trees and monuments still bear witness to this glorious time.

What awaits you in the Hofgarten

The Hofgarten is a true green oasis in the middle of innsbruckAs you stroll through the grounds, you will be amazed by the magnificent flowerbeds, well-kept paths and the idyllic atmosphere. Over 120 different types of trees, including some very old and rare specimens, characterize the garden. The large pond, where ducks and other waterfowl frolic in the summer, is particularly beautiful.

A highlight in the Hofgarten is the music pavilion, where concerts and events are held regularly. Especially in the summer months, you can enjoy classical music and jazz in the open air. These concerts have a long tradition and are very popular with both locals and tourists.

sculptures and monuments

The Hofgarten is not only a place of nature, but also an open-air museum. Everywhere in the park you will find historical sculptures and monuments that underline the ambience of the garden. The monuments from the Habsburg era in particular are a reminder of the garden's long history as part of the imperial residence. The artistically designed sculptures and statues give the Hofgarten a special charm.

The Innsbruck Court Garden offers not only tourists, but also locals a place of peace and relaxation. Here you can escape the city noise and relax with a walk or on one of the numerous benches.
