Kitzbühel Horn – the family-friendly ski resort

The Kitzbühel Horn, which is part of KitzSki ski resort belongs, rises south of Kitzbühel and is considered sunny and family-friendly alternative to the legendary Streif at Hahnenkamm. The Hornbahn cable car takes visitors from the city outskirts via a mid-station to the summit; from there, modern chairlifts and drag lifts provide access to the higher elevations. approximately 17 kilometers of slopes Skiing is available for all skill levels. A snow park with a funslope, kicker line (jumps), and family park provides variety, mountain restaurants entice visitors with regional cuisine, and day passes are significantly cheaper than on the other side of the valley. Family-friendly entry and infrastructure

Even the journey there is uncomplicated: We start from the beautiful Grand Tirolia Kitzbühel. From there, it's just a few minutes. The Hornbahn cable car ascends from the edge of town in two sections. The first section ends at a mid-station; from here, another gondola lift takes you to just below the summit. Alternatively, a cable car (Horngipfelbahn) takes winter sports enthusiasts to almost 2,000 meters. The panoramic viewing platforms at the summit offer breathtaking views of the Kitzbühel Alps. Ample parking is available at the valley station, and those who start early avoid congestion and enjoy the empty slopes.

The ten lifts include modern 6- and 8-seater chairlifts such as the Brunelle lift, as well as T-bar lifts and conveyor belts for children. The valley run is seven kilometers long and usually ends at the mid-station, from where you can continue down to the valley by gondola.

Piste offerings – from sunny carving slopes to valley runs

The 17 kilometers of groomed slopes are predominantly blue and red runs. From the summit, wide carving slopes like the Brunellenfeld run descend over undulating hilltops. Those who branch off into the Raintal valley will find another panoramic run; a gondola then takes skiers back up. The challenging "Hornköpfl direkt" (marked black) is reserved for advanced skiers. The longest run leads from the summit to the valley floor and offers constantly changing views over its seven kilometers.

For families and less experienced drivers A different route to the practice area is recommended: Instead of skiing down the blue or red slopes to the magic carpet and drag lift, take the chairlift and let it transport you comfortably to the children's area. This way you avoid steep sections and reach the conveyor belts with ease. Beginners appreciate the gentle slopes and wide pistes in the lower area.

Snowpark, funslope and family area

The Kitzbühel Horn is best known for its snow park. The park is divided into three areas: a funslope, a family park, and a kicker line. We particularly enjoyed the funslope, which features waves, berms, tunnels, a snow spiral, and a wallride; it's located right next to the Eggl T-bar lift. There's also a speed track, a snow tubing track, and even a small giant slalom. Further up, at the Alpenhaus mountain station, the kicker line awaits advanced riders with several jumps and a fun twister.

From personal experience, the area above the Eggl T-bar lift is particularly recommended for families and beginners: The relatively flat slope leads through a small tunnel, over gentle rollers, and offers optional jump opportunities. Towards the end, the run forks, allowing you to choose between different height kickers on the left or right, or alternatively, continue straight ahead without obstacles to the magic carpet or T-bar lift. Children love the variety – and thanks to the affordable rates, they can repeat the run as often as they like.

Tickets, offers and prices

Prices at the Kitzbühel Horn are family-friendly. A special "Horn Special" ticket covers all ten lifts and costs significantly less than regular KitzSki passes. It's available as a day, two-day, and three-day ticket and differentiates between adults, teenagers, and children. Toddlers always ski for free, and on selected "Kids Go Free" days, older children can also ski for free. You can find more information here. the prices

Those with only an afternoon to spare can take advantage of discounted half-hour or hourly tickets (depending on the season). Since the Kitzbühel Horn offers significantly fewer kilometers of slopes than the rest of the KitzSki area, the price-performance ratio is particularly attractive for families and those seeking a more relaxed skiing experience. Good to know: The Horn ticket also grants free access to the parking lots at the valley station.

Restaurants and huts

At the mountain station and along the slopes, there are several huts and mountain inns for a short break. The food on offer is classic Tyrolean fare and easily accessible.
