Kolm Saigurn is located at the end of the valley Rauris Valley and is a beautiful place that offers numerous activities in both winter and summer. In winter, the area becomes a popular destination for tobogganing enthusiasts, while in summer the region offers unique experiences for hikers and nature lovers. Surrounded by the majestic 3,000-meter peaks of the Goldberg Group in the Hohe Tauern National Park, enables Kolm Saigurn a perfect combination of nature enjoyment, adventure and relaxation.
In winter, Kolm Saigurn is especially known for its cozy and family-friendly toboggan run. The approximately 5-6 km long run begins directly behind the toll station, at the large parking lot. Those who don't want to walk up to the Naturfreundehaus can call a toboggan taxi, which will take guests up for about €10 per ride (depending on the vehicle type). The option by snowmobile (Skidoo) is particularly recommended and great fun, not just for children.
The toboggan taxi rides are usually offered every hour and last until nightfall. The route has a gentle gradient and two larger hairpin bends, making it suitable for children.
When you arrive at the Naturfreundehaus, you can either Nature Friends House or in Gasthof Ammererhof Both huts offer a cozy retreat and traditional home-cooked meals. At the Naturfreundehaus, you can also rent sledges and prepare for your next tobogganing adventure. There is also the option to Ice climbing to try out – a special winter experience for adventure seekers.
The ride begins just below the Naturfreundehaus (Friends of Nature House). The toboggan run isn't particularly challenging, but depending on the snow and gliding conditions, you may have to "walk" along the way if the toboggan doesn't glide optimally, and there are a few flat sections and small inclines at the beginning. The panoramas from Kolm Saigurn are particularly beautiful in winter, while the imposing mountains of the Goldberg Group provide a breathtaking backdrop. Those who want to experience nature at this time of year will be richly rewarded by the frozen waterfalls along the route and the pristine surroundings.
The route runs down to the toll booth. At the back of the cross-country ski trail you will find the Alpine Inn Bodenhaus, where you can also stop for a drink.
In summer, Kolm Saigurn is an ideal starting point for hikes in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Rauriser Urwald, a natural fallow forest with over 80 dark bog pools, fall spruces and stone pines, is located at the end of the valley of Kolm Saigurn and is a popular destination for hikers.
For experienced hikers, the ascent to the Hohen Sonnblick, one of the highest peaks in the Goldberg Group. At 3,106 meters, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the entire Rauris Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges. The tour is challenging and should only be attempted by experienced hikers.
The region also offers other well-marked hikes suitable for varying levels of difficulty. Numerous guided hikes and mountain bike tours can be enjoyed from the Naturfreundehaus. The view from Kolm Saigurn of the 3,000-meter peaks of the Goldberg Group is unique in both summer and winter.
After a strenuous hike, you can stop off at the traditional huts to enjoy a hearty meal. Sunview Base and the Ammererhof offer not only delicious home-cooked meals, but also a beautiful view of the surrounding nature.
