Lake Lauchsee in Fieberbrunn is nestled in the gentle Kitzbühel Alps and is particularly popular for its moorland-rich waters. Thanks to its sheltered location, it warms up early in the year and is ideal for swimming, relaxing, or stand-up paddling. Families will also find plenty to enjoy with its playground, trampoline, and shallow shores. We visited the lake in June and were thrilled by the view of the Loferer Steinberge mountains.
Due to its high peat content, Lake Lauchsee has a special property: It warms up quickly and retains heat very well. As early as May, with temperatures around 20°C, it's inviting for the first swim. Many visitors also report a soothing effect on their joints and skin. While the water isn't crystal clear, it's pleasantly soft and calm. We were able to find plenty of space on the well-maintained lawn even on busy days.
Lake Lauchsee isn't just a swimming lake. Children have fun on the playground or water trampoline, while teenagers enjoy the beach volleyball court. Those preferring a more tranquil setting can rent a SUP and paddle across the water. Around the lake, there are shady trees, plenty of seating, and small coves – ideal for picnics. Table tennis tables and a raft are also available.
The restaurant, located directly on the lakeshore, offers simple, regional cuisine—from fries to schnitzel to salads. A particularly nice feature is the large sun terrace with views across the lake to the surrounding mountains. We treated ourselves to an ice cream here after a swim and enjoyed the relaxing view.
On the southern shore of Lake Lauchsee, there is an area reserved exclusively for anglers, allowing for quiet and focused fishing. Up to two rods per person are permitted. The day ticket (valid from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. outside of swimming hours) and the night ticket (8 p.m. to 7 a.m.) each cost €40. A maximum of two game fish may be caught per ticket.
Mr. Wolfgang Schneider is available for ticket sales and all important information on bait selection, fishing spots, and current conditions at +49 664 8763178. The lake's fish population is particularly impressive: carp, some weighing over 10 kg, vigorous pike, cautious zander, and noble tench provide a variety of species. Eels, sturgeon, Amur carp, perch, shad, and various whitefish complement the range. Lake Lauchsee thus offers a diverse and exciting fishing area for anglers of all experience levels.
We recommend visiting the lake during the week or in the morning – then there is less activity. PillerseeTal Card Those traveling can enjoy discounted or even free admission. The combined ticket with the Aubad is also worth it on days with bad weather. Parking can be limited in midsummer, so arrive as early as possible.
Several easy walking and hiking trails start from Lake Lauchsee. A beautiful loop, for example, leads back to the village via the Achenpromenade. Cyclists will also find numerous family-friendly routes in the Pillersee Valley. Those staying longer can combine their visit with a detour to the Pillersee or combine it with a trip to the Buchensteinwand.
