The erLebzelterei: A look behind the scenes

The Pirker gingerbread factory offers insights into the entire gingerbread production process on over 3,500 square meters. Along a glass visitor walkway, guests can watch how the honey dough is kneaded, rolled out and shaped. The filling, topping and decorating of the gingerbread is also demonstrated on site.

Particular attention is paid to the use of high-quality ingredients such as local honey, spices and nuts. This quality standard is what makes Mariazell gingerbread so unique and popular.

Along the way there are boards with puzzles, which make it entertaining for children too.

History of the Lebzelterei Pirker

The Pirker gingerbread factory looks back on a history spanning over 170 years and is now run by the fourth generation. Originally founded as a small gingerbread factory, Pirker has developed into the flagship of the region and now exports its products to many countries around the world.

  • Experience craftsmanship: In addition to gingerbread making, Pirker also demonstrates the traditional art of wax making and mead making.
