Experience Austria in miniature

Spanning approximately 300 m², the Schiltern Model Railway World showcases a variety of Austrian regions, buildings, and scenes in impressive detail. The 1:87 scale allows for a realistic representation—from the Dürnstein Castle ruins to the Schneeberg mountain and St. Pölten Central Station. The day-night experience is particularly impressive: every 24 minutes, the entire layout switches from day to night mode, accompanied by realistic light and sound effects. Children will also find buttons to press where moving objects appear. They're not always immediately apparent.

New highlights & open construction sites

The facility continues to grow. An "open construction site" concept allows you to watch the model builders at work. Recent highlights include:

  • The Vienna Woods visit the Waldviertel (2024) with Myra Falls, St. Corona and a humorous UFO crash
  • RWA Energy Model (2023) with interactive elements on renewable energy
  • Christmas Elf Wonderland (2022) with lovingly hand-painted figures and action buttons
  • Schönbrunn Castle with Tiergarten (2019) – an impressive replica with over 15,000 individual parts

Even older, but worth seeing areas such as the “20-Schilling-Blick“ or the stairway to heaven on the Mariazellerbahn are lovingly staged.

Interactive world of experience

Many scenes contain small buttons that you can use to trigger actions yourself: starting trains, turning on lights, moving figures. This is especially eye-catching for children – and adults can't get enough of the attention to detail.

Model Railway Shop & Advice

Adjacent to the exhibition is a well-stocked model railway shop with items from manufacturers such as Roco, Märklin, Piko, and many more. The dedicated team deserves special mention: The employees not only assist with selection, but are also happy to talk about the layout, the history of the railway, and provide insights into its technology and construction. Repairs are also offered on-site.
