The Nordwald-Großpertholz Nature Park is located on the western edge of the Waldviertel highlands and is characterized by its Nordic-Scandinavian landscape. Dense coniferous forests, colorful meadows and unique rock formations await you.
From the village of Großpertholz, drive uphill to the end of the village and then turn left towards the forest. After a short while, you pass through the village of Scheiben, at the end of which you will find the car park for the nature park on the left. Here you will find the information log cabin.
The impressive observation tower on the Schwarzenberg is a must for every visitor. From the parking lot it is a half hour walk to the observation towerFrom here you have a wonderful view over the landscape of the Waldviertel. The climb is worth it, because the view of the dense forests and colorful meadows is breathtaking.
The Stierhüblteich at Karlstift is another highlight of the park. This mud bathing pond offers pleasant cooling in summer and a picturesque setting for relaxation. This place is ideal for families with children in particular to spend a day in nature.
Several themed hiking trails lead through the nature park and offer exciting insights into the regional flora and fauna. The park is known for its diverse habitats, including rare animal and plant species such as the Bohemian Forest sheep and the gentian. The trails are well signposted and offer various levels of difficulty, so that both families and experienced hikers get their money's worth.
The animal enclosures are easily accessible from the information blockhouse or from the car park in Scheiben via the Obstle(h)r path in about 10 minutes. On the way to the animal enclosures you pass the Bärenkopf rock. Two minutes later you reach the chapel. From there it is a few minutes downhill to the enclosures. Here you will find goats, chickens, rabbits and peacocks. Food is available to buy on site.
From the animal enclosure, walk up to the nearby road. From there, a wide gravel path leads back to the parking lot, quicker than the original path.
The rustic log cabin in the nature park takes care of your physical well-being. Here you can enjoy regional specialties and regain your strength after a hike. The cozy ambience and the wonderful location make it a perfect place to linger.
