The Leckermoos raised bog in Lower Austria is an impressive moorland that fascinates with its untouched nature and rare flora and fauna. A circular path with information boards leads through the moor and provides interesting insights into the sensitive ecosystem. Visitors can enjoy the special atmosphere of the moor and admire the surrounding mountain landscape - an ideal place for hikes and nature observation.
The Leckermoos nature reserve covers a total area of 25 hectares. The raised bog was renaturalized between 2004 and 2006, as it had previously suffered from major interventions.
In 2006, a moor path around the wetland was opened to visitors. A total of 11 stations and information boards provide interesting information about the formation of the raised bog. Special attention was paid to making it child-friendly.
At 10:15 a.m. we park at the car park, where there is also a toilet. The circular route starts at the information board. A narrow path leads past it on the right. Information boards are set up along the path. After a few minutes you turn onto a forest path, which you then walk straight along. To be more precise, you go anti-clockwise around the entire moor on this wide forest path.
The forest is very beautiful throughout, but we would have preferred adventure trail expected a little more. Despite the bad weather (no wonder, this region in the Northern Limestone Alps is one of the wettest areas in Austria) we enjoy walking, but apart from a few slugs we don't experience much.
After about 45 minutes you finally turn off into the moor on a wooden path, which is always used to advertise the moor. You walk along the boards through the mountain pine moor forest. The board path leads a few minutes into the moor. At the end you have a beautiful view. In front of you is the dark lake, the so-called "Moorauge", in the center of the moor.
We go back and follow the forest path. After about 1 hour we arrive back at the parking lot.
