The Happ Reptile Zoo in Klagenfurt, right next to Minimundus, offers an impressive collection of more than 1,000 animals on around 4,000 m². The zoo presents a cross-section of the living reptile world, from the largest giant snake in the world to poisonous snakes and rare lizards. For reptile fans and families with children, the zoo is a fascinating place that offers a close-up look into the world of these animals.
The zoo’s highlights include the reticulated python, the longest giant snake in the world, as well as the king cobra, the largest venomous snake in the world. Particularly impressive is the Taipan, the most poisonous snake on earth. There are also various species of lizards such as rhinoceros iguanas and dwarf crocodiles In the first room of the zoo there are several terrariums in which exotic reptiles and fish such as piranhas can be viewed up close. Particularly fascinating is the chameleon, whose bright colors immediately captivate visitors.
For children, a visit to the zoo is particularly exciting, as it is rare to see so many exotic and sometimes poisonous animals at once. One of the biggest attractions is the opportunity to see a real touching the snakeWhen this is possible, the zoo will announce it over the loudspeaker and many visitors are lucky enough to be able to take part in this special experience.
The outdoor area The zoo has other enclosures housing various reptiles. Unfortunately, sometimes the animals can be difficult to spot, as was the case during our visit, when some of the reptiles were well hidden. water turtles in the pond and the giant tortoises, which we were able to observe through a glass pane, caused a great deal of excitement. Especially for the little ones, there are also some plastic dinosaurs, which are located at the rear of the zoo and provide an additional attraction.
Another room inside the zoo is dedicated to poisonous spiders There are several specimens on display here, which provide a thrill, especially for the bravest visitors. However, for people with arachnophobia, this room is a real challenge, as the proximity to the spiders becomes an unforgettable, if somewhat scary, experience for many visitors.
Although the entrance fee Although the price of €16 may be considered high, the zoo offers some exciting experiences for children and reptile lovers. The contact with the snakes and the variety of animals on display, from crocodiles to rare snake species, make the visit worthwhile. However, it can be disappointing if not all of the animals can be seen outside.
Overall, the Happ Reptile Zoo an interesting stop for family trips in Klagenfurt, which especially excites children, even though the entrance fee is high.
