The Schiederweiher
The Schiederweiher is an artificial pond measuring around 2 hectares and 1 to 1.5 metres deep in the Polsterlucke in the Stodertal. The lake is 612 metres above sea level and is impressive due to its location below the Grosser Priel in the Totes Gebirge. Numerous information boards along the pond provide exciting insights into the flora and fauna of the area and make the visit not only scenic but also educational.
Arrival and hike to Schiederweiher
The journey begins at the "Schiederweiher Hinterstoder" car park. There are plenty of parking spaces here, but we recommend arriving in the morning to avoid the crowds. From here, the path leads over a bridge that crosses the Steyr River, past the beautiful Johannishof estate.
The trail continues along the Polsterlucke, which is lined with meadow edges and later turns into a well-developed gravel road. The trail is signposted throughout and easy to find. Simply follow the signs to the "Polsterluckenrunde" or the "Flötzersteig". The hike takes around 30 to 40 minutes and is also easy for families and less experienced hikers.
