The Triassic Park on the Steinplatte in Waidring is an extraordinary family destination that brings Earth's history to life in a fascinating way. From life-size dinosaurs to real fossils and the new Panorama Shell, a diverse day awaits you at an altitude of 1,600 meters. Whether hiking, splashing, climbing, biking, or exploring – here, knowledge, exercise, and nature experience combine in a unique way. Even in bad weather, the weatherproof Triassic Center and the stalactite cave offer plenty of activities – and the adventure continues in winter.
The ascent by cable car offers impressive views of the surrounding Tyrolean Alps. Once at the top, two spectacular highlights await you: the new Panorama Shell, a barrier-free relaxation area made of larch wood with direct views of the mountain scenery, as well as the observation deck in the shape of a fan coral.
The latter hovers almost 70 meters above the abyss and guarantees impressive views down below – those who dare can even take a step onto the glass floor. But don't worry: even those with a less fearful head for heights will get their money's worth thanks to the continuous, opaque sections. For us, this view was definitely one of the highlights – ideal for getting in the mood for the adventure that lies ahead.
The Triassic Trail is a 4 km circular trail that forms the central element of Triassic Park. This trail literally takes you on a journey through 200 million years of Earth's history. Information panels, fossil sites, and life-size dinosaurs line the route, which is both scenic and informative.
The trail is ideal for families: The first section, up to the aquatic dinosaur reservoir, is suitable for strollers; for the remaining section, we recommend a baby carrier or backpack. We found the "Fischer's Coral Garden" particularly fascinating, where you can discover fossilized corals. Augmented reality puzzle rally Dinosaurs come to life on the smartphone – and the kids were thrilled!
After a hike, Triassic Beach is the perfect place to play, cool off, and dig. Spanning over 200 square meters, it features slides, water features, Kneipp facilities, and even a small "dig site" where fossils can be unearthed. Our children spent over an hour there with great enthusiasm – excavating a dinosaur skeleton with a hammer and chisel is an experience you won't soon forget.
An additional plus point: There are plenty of seating and relaxation areas around the beach for parents who just want to take a breather.
Right next to the beach is the Robinia Park, a low ropes course made of tree trunks and ropes that requires balance and dexterity. The course is low to the ground, so even younger children can participate safely. Those looking for something more challenging can combine the beach and low ropes course – a great mix of action and play.
In case of bad weather, or as a complement to your outdoor experience, the Triassic Center is a great option: On two levels, children (and adults!) learn all about the ancient oceans, fossil formation, and dinosaurs. We particularly like the interactive stations, such as microscopy, dating fossils, and simulating geological processes.
Tip: In summer it is ideal as a “cool retreat” on hot days.
From May to September, the Panorama Shell on the Steinplatte plateau offers a diverse activity program. Regular yoga and Qi Gong sessions, as well as bodyweight, mobility, and stability flow classes, ensure an active start to the day – always with breathtaking views of the Tyrolean mountains.
Important: Sessions take place from 8:45 a.m. to approximately 10:00 a.m. Registration is required. The meeting point is at 8:20 a.m. at the Waidring gondola lift valley station (ascent at 8:30 a.m.). Discounted round-trip ticket: €15.
Stalagmites, stalactites, and stalagnates – anyone familiar with these terms is either a geologist or has already visited the Triassic Park. This stalactite cave offers fascinating insights into the underground world. Information panels explain how stalactites form and the conditions necessary for them. It's pleasantly cool even in summer – and a must-visit in bad weather anyway.
In addition to the regular offerings, Triassic Park hosts a variety of events for the whole family throughout the year. In summer, a colorful children's entertainment program with crafts, dinosaur pizza baking, face painting, and games, as well as fun summer parties with dancing, competitions, and a visit from the mascot Triassi, provide plenty of entertainment. The program runs daily in July and August from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (except Saturdays) and offers parents an ideal opportunity to relax while their children are well looked after. It's especially popular when Triassi herself stops by Triassic Beach and makes everyone's eyes light up.
Even during the colder season, Triassic Park offers plenty of activities: Carnival and spring parties, Christmas tree decorating, snow art activities, snowman building, treasure hunts, and Family Day with stamp hunts and park coaching in the snow park delight visitors of all ages. Supported by Hubsi Bubsi & Irene There's always music, small gifts, and group activities – whatever the weather and always lots of fun. In winter, a cleared winter hiking trail invites you to the Panorama Muschel (Panorama Shell), the viewing platform, and the stalactite cave. For children, there are indoor play areas, a fun line for little freestylers, and a cozy mom's lounge. If you're lucky, you might even meet Triassi herself during the winter season.
