The story

It was built in 1897 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Josef I and was at that time the largest Ferris wheel in the worldAlthough there are now larger and more modern Ferris wheels, the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel has still retained its charm and fascination.
The building has a long history that is also linked to the history of Vienna. It was badly damaged during the Second World War and had to be rebuilt afterwards. It was also a place where famous people such as Sigmund Freud and Gustav Klimt spent their time.
During the Corona pandemic, the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel stopped for the first time in 73 years. On May 29, 2020, it will be ceremoniously put back into operation by Vienna's Mayor Michael Ludwig.

The Ferris wheel today

Before you enter the Ferris wheel, you go through the Panorama Museum. The tour takes you through 2000 years of Viennese history and Prater stories, which are exhibited in carriages.

Finally, you climb into one of the 15 wooden carriages. The Ferris wheel is 65 metres high and offers a unique view of the city.
