The Volksgarten and its History

The Volksgarten was opened in 1823 on the site of the former Burgbastei garden. The park was the first public garden in Vienna and was originally designed by Ludwig Remy. The design was based on French baroque gardens, which is reflected in the symmetrical paths and artistic flowerbeds. Originally, the Volksgarten was a place where Viennese society gathered - a tradition that continues to this day.

One of the most famous highlights is the magnificent rose garden with over 3,000 rose bushes in a wide variety of varieties and colors. This area is a real spectacle, especially during the flowering period in May and June. In a quieter corner of the park is the Sisi monument, dedicated to Empress Elisabeth of Austria. It shows the famous empress in a graceful pose and is surrounded by flowerbeds.
