Westendorf is located at about 800 m above sea level on a sunny plateau in the Windau valley of the Brixental. The village was declared a most beautiful flower village in Europe and combines the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental with the Kitzbühel/Kirchberg ski area. As a year-round holiday destination, Westendorf offers a wide range of activities for families, active holidaymakers, and connoisseurs.
Westendorf lies on a sunny high plateau at the entrance to the Windau Valley and serves as a link between the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental and the Kitzbühel/Kirchberg ski area. Surrounded by peaks such as the Gampenkogel, Brechhorn, and Kröndlhorn, the Windau Valley extends 16 km into the Kitzbühel Alps and is a paradise for outdoor activities.
By car, you can reach the Brixental Valley and then Westendorf via the Inntal Autobahn (Wörgl-Ost exit). There's a large, free parking lot right next to the valley station of the Alpenrosenbahn cable car.
By train you travel to Westendorf or Hopfgarten and change there to the regional bus. Guest card of the Kitzbühel Alps In many cases, this entitles you to free bus use. The valley station also houses a flight school and is a landing site for paragliders.
Westendorf offers around 800 km of marked hiking trails. The Alpinolino-Himmelsteig is a special highlight: a 2 km long themed trail with 14 interactive stations, starting at the top station of the Alpenrosenbahn cable car. Children and adults alike learn fascinating facts about the flora and fauna of the Alps in a playful way. More challenging hikers will find summit tours to the Gampenkogel or the Brechhorn, which offer stunning views of the Kitzbühel Alps.
The Windautal Valley is part of the Kaiserrunde, a popular panoramic cycling route. Mountain bikers can choose from numerous routes leading to the Hohe Salve or deep into the Windautal Valley. For leisurely cyclists and e-bikers, there are family-friendly trails with refreshment stops at alpine pastures. The cable cars transport bikes and provide access to flow trails and technically challenging descents.
Since 2014, Westendorf has housed the Kitzbüheler Alpen Westendorf Golf Club, a stunning 18-hole (par 72) course spread across 64 hectares. Measuring 5,882 meters in length and featuring a natural design, the course has been awarded four stars superior and is a member of the "Leading Golf Courses" network. Guests benefit from discounts on green fees.
The Alpenrosenbahn cable car is a popular starting point for paragliders. The valley station offers a spacious landing area, and flight schools organize tandem flights for beginners. There are also Nordic walking trails, tennis courts, an outdoor pool, and a fitness course for athletes.
In summer 2025, the Alpenrosenbahn will run daily from May 24 to October 26 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. It is wheelchair accessible and also transports bicycles.
Westendorf is part of the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental, one of Austria's largest ski areas. With 81 modern lifts, over 275 km of slopes, and around 80 ski huts, the region is a paradise for skiers. The gondola also connects Westendorf directly to the Kitzbühel/Kirchberg ski area. The Boarders Playground Fun Park offers snowboarders and freestylers a variety of lines and obstacles.
The high plateau and the Windau Valley are also attractive in winter. Several groomed cross-country ski trails lead through the snowy landscape. Winter hiking trails away from the slopes offer tranquil nature experiences.
For children and families, there are special ski courses and programs at the Boarders Playground. The Shred Kids Family Weekend in March, which includes coaching and courses for the whole family, is particularly popular.

Westendorf offers a wide selection of hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments, and rustic alpine huts, many of which are within walking distance of the lifts. The village center features several supermarkets, sports shops, and a diverse range of restaurants—from traditional Tyrolean cuisine to fine dining.
