The hike
We start our hike in Keutschach and park directly opposite the very beautiful church in the center (we walk the circular hike anti-clockwise).
We walk down the main street and pass the castle pond. The path continues slightly downhill until, after about 20 minutes, we spot Lake Keutschacher in the distance. Now we walk along the main street towards the lake. We stop at the Spar supermarket to get some last-minute snacks for the hike.
We walk around the Spar and take the path along the stream on the left towards the beach (The lake and campsite are now to our right).
We walk along the asphalted path, which is suitable for strollers, before turning left at a wooden bridge and walking along a small stream. We are now surrounded by the moor. Information boards provide interesting information about the habitats of the meadows, forests, the lake and more.
We pass a small lake on the left and turn right deeper into the moor.
After about a third of the route you reach a viewing point. There we make a short detour and go up to the platform to enjoy the landscape.
The circular path leads past it on the right. It is well signposted again and again.
After a short stretch on the asphalt path, we turn left into the forest. The forest path is narrow, but can still be managed quite well with a stroller, although you do need a fairly off-road vehicle for this. Unfortunately, this section of the path is unsuitable for wheelchair users, as it repeatedly goes slightly uphill and downhill over roots.
After 20 minutes we reach a paved path again, where we turn right. If you want to shorten the hike, you can also turn left here. However, we do not recommend this, as the most beautiful part of the hike lies ahead of us.
We continue the circular walk and walk a short distance uphill to a beautiful flower meadow. From here you can see both our starting point at the church and in the background on the left the PyramidenkogelShortly afterwards the path is briefly asphalted again.
We continue along a gravel path through the beautiful, unspoilt forest. After a few minutes we reach the Baßgeigensee, for us one of the most beautiful parts of the hike.
We walk around the lake again in an anti-clockwise direction. On the back side it is now a little uphill, but you have a wonderful view of the Baßgeigensee. Shortly afterwards you return to Keutschach.
Conclusion
For the Keutschach moor hike you should plan on about 2.5 hours, a little longer with children. At the beginning the path is unspectacular, but becomes more and more beautiful towards the end. The highlight for us is the forest path around the Baßgeigensee.
