Brief information:
- Where is it located? The Adlerarena is located between Villach and Lake Ossiach in Carinthia.
- What is there to see? The highlight is the bird of pray air show
- When are the opening times? Mon – Sat 10.30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Sundays and public holidays 10.30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The castle is elevated on a mountain. You can either park below or pay a € 3.8 toll and drive up. We choose the latter. By the way, next to Landskron Castle is also the Affenberg (transl. monkey mountain). So you can cover 2 sights with the same parking lot.
Admission for the eagle show is € 14 per person. To be honest, quite expensive, as we think. Here you can find the current prices. Entry is free with the Kärnten Card.
The highlight of the eagle arena is the 40-minute birds of prey flight show. These take place from Monday to Saturday 3 times a day, namely at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. On Sundays and public holidays there is an additional show at 5:00 p.m.
During the air show you learn interesting facts about the birds. Incidentally, most of them are injured animals that would have perished in nature. Their own breeding station nurses them back up here. Some birds are free. So it can happen that you don’t show up for several days or even weeks. The show is quite impressive and is particularly popular with children. Various birds of prey and even an owl fly through the castle arena.
The tour through the castle or past the cages is then rather mediocre. The animals don’t seem really free in the cages …
