The town of Bad Ischl is an Austrian health resort with just over 14,000 inhabitants. But tourists are in the majority here. Bad Ischl was awarded a gold medal at the Entente Florale Europe competition for quality of life with the highest number of points ever awarded. In 2024, Bad Ischl will also be the European Capital of Culture.
Bad Ischl is an excellent starting point for excursions in the Salzkammergut.
When we arrive, the famous “Kaisertage” are taking place. Around August 18, Bad Ischl is all about the birthday of Emperor Franz Joseph I. To mark the occasion, numerous festivities are held in the imperial city during this period. Again and again one meets disguised personalities.
Highlights in Bad Ischl:
- Imperial Villa with Imperial Park: Emperor Franz Joseph l spent his summer months here in the villa. In 1914 he put his signature to the declaration of war on Serbia, from which the First World War developed.
- Confectionery Zauner: within 300 meters there are 2 branches of this famous former k.u.k. Hof confectionery (Pfarrgasse 7 and Hasnerallee 2)
- The Katrin: almost directly from the city, the cable car leads to this mountain, which is perfect for hiking. You can find our field report here.
