In the heart of the city of Salzburg, the DomQuartier shines as an outstanding cultural highlight. Here, history comes to life in the magnificent rooms, and as you stroll through the museum, you can simultaneously enjoy breathtaking views of the city and a glimpse into the Salzburg Cathedral from above. All in all, a very worthwhile tour!
The DomQuartier tour
It is best to do the tour. When we arrive at 10:00 in the morning, we are the first ones, as the tours do not start until 10:00. So we have the completely empty corridors in front of us. You do not have to worry about getting lost, as there really is a tour and everything is well signposted. You should definitely take an audio guide with you, as the rooms are beautifully described, sometimes a little too detailed for our taste. The journey through the DomQuartier begins in the magnificent baroque rooms of the Old Residence. On the upper floor of the former residence and office of the Prince Archbishops The unique Residence Gallery awaits you, displaying impressive paintings by European artists from the 16th to 19th centuries.
Finally, you come to the terrace, from which you have a beautiful view of the Cathedral Square, Salzburg Museum- New Residence, Residence Square & Fountain If you want, you can have a coffee here and enjoy the view.
We continue into the rooms of the North Oratory in the cathedral, which are decorated with elaborate stucco and are used primarily for special exhibitions. Immediately afterwards the next highlight follows: you reach the organ room and have an incredible view of the Interior of the Salzburg Cathedral.
The south oratory of the cathedral houses the Cathedral Museum, which houses works of art from the Gothic to the Baroque periods, not only from the cathedral itself but also from other churches in the Archdiocese of Salzburg.
The tour of the DomQuartier takes you through the Art and Curiosity Chamber and the Long Gallery and ends in the Museum St. Peter, where the church treasure and works of art from the collections of the Archabbey of St. Peter presented. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take photos of it.

Next, you reach the terrace, from where you have a beautiful view of the Cathedral Square, Salzburg Museum – New Residence, Residence Square & Fountain. If you like, you can have a coffee here and enjoy the view.
