The Hotel Hochschober in portrait
The Hotel Hochschober is a refuge that will amaze you. Wonderfully quietly located at 1,763 metres above sea level in the Austrian province of Carinthia, directly on the shore of Lake Turrach. In the midst of larch and Swiss stone pine forests, surrounded by the gently rolling peaks of the Nock Mountains. Close by are picture-perfect alpine pastures, the picturesque Grünsee and Schwarzsee lakes, mystical moors and wild, romantic mountain valleys.
A solid surface of ice covers Lake Turrach in winter. Cross-country ski trails and winter hiking paths run across the lake and through the countryside. Skiers and snowboarders make their turns on the snow-sure slopes.
Tradition and innovation for almost 100 years
In 1929, the Leeb family opened the "Gasthof Hochschober". The special location on the Turracher Höhe required special ideas. The Leeb family has been an expert in developing extraordinary ideas and then implementing them for three generations now. What is striking is the intensive engagement with the topic that always precedes any innovation.
Today, the Leeb and Klein family continue the tradition of the house: as hosts with passion and attention to detail. Firmly rooted in the region and at the same time enthusiastic travelers themselves, on the move in search of adventure ideas for what people are particularly looking for on vacation: meaning and happiness.
Crazy ideas and silent miracles
A heated swimming pool in the cold lake? Saunas with panoramic views and direct access to the mountain lake? A Hamam and a China Tower in the middle of the Alps?
The Hotel Hochschober always succeeds in surprising its guests with ideas that at first sound downright crazy. At the same time, they are thought through down to the smallest detail: the quintessence of its own enthusiasm, numerous study trips and the pursuit of authenticity. The China Tower, for example, was designed by a Chinese architect, and all of the furnishings come from China. The Hochschober employees learned the art of the tea ceremony from Chinese tea masters.
Silent wonders make it easy to immerse yourself in your holiday from the very first moment: the gentle yet powerful washing in the Hamam relieves everyday tensions, the tea ceremony in the China Tower slows down and sharpens the senses, swimming in the always warm lake pool or – for fans of cold and winter bathing in the cool Turracher See – awakens the spirits, a visit to the Saunas with panoramic views warms and refreshes at the same time.
