Klosterneuburg Abbey, located near Vienna, is a monastery known for its history, art and architecture. The collegiate church was completed and consecrated on September 29, 1136. The monastery also owns the oldest and one of the largest wineries in Austria.

Collegiate church
The Basilica of Klosterneuburg is one of the most beautiful churches in Austria and has an impressive collection of Baroque art and architecture.
Here is one of the most important instruments in Austria, the famous organ of the collegiate church, which was built in 1642 by Johann Freundt from Passau.
The former chapter house houses the famous Verdun altarpiece from 1181, which is one of the most important works of art of the Middle Ages. In 1936 a reliquary for the bones of Saint Leopold was installed above it
The adjacent Leopoldihof (Kuchlhof) is also worth seeing.
Attention: the big monastery tour lasts 90 minutes and only takes place twice a day. Audio guides are available in 14 different languages. The highlights of the tour:

Abbey Museum
A variety of exhibitions can be viewed in the Abbey Museum, including collections of works of art, books and religious objects. The objects range from medieval to contemporary art.
Treasury
In the treasury of the monastery you can see an impressive collection of religious objects, jewels and other treasures from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque. These include, among other things, precious reliquaries, liturgical implements, artistically designed chalices, monstrances and crucifixes, sculptures, paintings and much more. A special highlight is the Wiener Werkstätte collection, which offers impressive insights into the arts and crafts traditions of the early 20th century.

The monastery itself is an impressive building with a rich history and architecture. You can visit the various buildings and rooms and learn more about the history of the monastery.
Wine cellar
Klosterneuburg Monastery operates the oldest winery in Austria that still exists today. It produces some of Austria’s finest wines. In the monastery’s wine cellar you can take part in wine tastings and learn more about the history of the winery.
