What is the Willow Dome?
These are domes that were woven from willows. The living structure of the willow dome has put down its roots on the banks of the Enns, right at the turnoff to the mountaineering village of Johnsbach. Architect Marcel Kalberer planned and designed the willow dome together with employees of the Gesäuse National Park in the winter of 2003/04.
What can you experience there?
The Willow Dome area offers a variety of attractions that appeal to both humans and animals. labyrinth of the ecological footprint encourages reflection on sustainable action, while the small wild garden an oasis for the local wildlife. An idyllic avenue of fruit trees also offers inspiration for environmentally conscious gardening at home.
Throughout the entire Willow Dome grounds, guests will find rest areas with comfortable swings that invite them to relax, have a picnic and linger. There is also a grandstand with a spectacular view of the north faces of the Hochtor group, which is used in the summer for interesting lectures and film programs. This gives the entire complex a special atmosphere.
For those who want to refresh themselves in the cool waters of the Enns, the Johnsbachsteg visitor area is an ideal place. Here you can enjoy the refreshing water and experience a wonderful view of the majestic Gesäuse mountains.Themed trails
The Weidendom adventure center is also the starting point for numerous themed trails that allow you to explore the area around the national park in a fascinating way. For example, the "Lettmair AU" themed trail, the Leirerweg hiking trail, the "Wilde John" adventure trail and the Johnsbachsteg and bathing pond.
