The Podersdorf windmill is the larger of the last two of formerly four hundred windmills in Austria. Unlike the Retz windmill, it is entirely above ground. It was built around 1800 and has been in the family since 1849. It was in operation until around 1926. It has been a listed building since 1975. In 2001 the association Windmühle Podersdorf am See was founded. He ensures the renovation and maintenance of the windmill, as well as the organization of the visitors.
The mill is 15 meters high and could grind up to 300 kilograms of grist per hour with good wind and suitable grist. The two grinders were driven by the fludders that used to be covered with canvas. Currently, the windmill is commissioned a few times a year and used as a venue.
