Brief information:
- Where is the Schwarzsee located? About 2 km west of Kitzbühel on Brixental Straße. The lake is easily accessible thanks to the stop of the Salzburg-Tiroler Bahn.
- Can you bathe in it? Yes, it is even one of the warmest lakes in Tyrol. It has an average of 23 °
- How big is the lake? 8 hectares and 7 meters deep
- When is it open? Season: June – August daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Does it cost entry? Yes, it is for the swimming pool, otherwise it is freely accessible.
- Is it also accessible in winter? In winter, the Schwarzsee is usually frozen over and is therefore suitable for ice skating, ice hockey and curling.
With a summer temperature of up to 27 degrees, the Schwarzsee is the warmest moor lake in Tyrol and therefore a particularly popular bathing lake. No wonder, it is only 7m deep. When we arrive at the end of June, however, it has only a fresh 19°. Nevertheless, we are immediately enthusiastic about the beautiful lake, as it is embedded in the Kaiser Mountains, among other things.
You shouldn’t be put off by the name, because the lake is of course not black, but rather shimmers emerald green. There is a public bathing beach here and right next to it you can also rent boats, pedal boats and SUP. You can find the price list here.
Lake tour:
We can especially recommend the lake tour, which can even be done with a stroller. It takes a good half an hour to go around the lake.
We start at the cafeteria at the lido and turn right onto a thin path. At first it is a little uphill, but only a short distance. Soon you reach the forest on the lakeshore, where you already have the first wonderful views. It is also pleasantly cool in the forest.
We walk the circular route counter-clockwise. Again and again there are inviting bays in which people lie, of course completely free of charge. Park benches always invite you to slow down. The path is concreted and almost exclusively leads along the water. Except for the construction site of a hotel, which is being built here, the walk is just perfect. One can only hope that the hotel will fit in halfway into the landscape after completion. In any case, we really enjoyed our circumnavigation of the lake.
