The Dachstein Suspension Bridge – A Breathtaking Structure
This highest suspension bridge in Austria, leading to the Dachstein Ice Palace, is a must-see for visitors. As you step onto the bridge, a depth of around 400 meters opens up beneath you, while an awe-inspiring mountain panorama stretches in front of you. The view down to the Dachstein mountains is an unforgettable moment.
Crossing the bridge, which is about 100 meters long and 1 meter wide, might be a challenge for some, but the 1.3-meter-high railings and steel cables guarantee safety high above the ground. The bridge withstands wind speeds of up to 250 km/h, supports snow loads of up to 750 kg/m², and has a gradient of 12 percent.
At the end of the bridge awaits the “Stairway to Nothingness”, offering a sensation of floating in the air. An exciting experience, followed by a visit to the Ice Palace, completes your adventure at Dachstein.
The Stairway to Nothingness – Steps above the Abyss
14 narrow steps lead to a glass podium at a breathtaking height. Stepping onto this staircase places you 400 meters above the ground, directly in a rock face.
Climbing the “Stairway to Nothingness” requires a bit of courage, but as a reward, you get a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding mountain landscapes. The staircase accommodates up to 4 people at a time.
