The Wels Zoo is the oldest in Upper Austria, covering 28,000 m² and is home to around 90 animal species with a total of 600 animals. These come from almost all continents (Eurasia, Europe, Asia, India, South America, New Zealand).
However, you should not imagine any big cats or other wild animals here. exotic and native bird species, such as cranes, white storks, ducks and birds of prey. The native animal species include two lynxes, deer, turtles and potbellied pigs.
Founded in 1930, the zoo also has a Variety of primates (for example, bearded macaques, small pygmy marmosets and katas), a new monkey house was built for them in 2012.
In some cases, there are food dispensers for the animals in front of the enclosures. It costs €1 to fill a cup for the animals, who are happy to eat from children's hands.
The zoo is also particularly suitable for families with children, as they will find plenty of space to run around and also a very large children's playground is available. Parents can watch their children playing from the buffet. The beautifully landscaped zoo is definitely worth a visit.
