Tyrol: time out at the Lake Achen (Achensee)

The Achensee (Lake Achen). Probably one of the most beautiful lakes in Austria – and also one of the coldest. We were in the region for three days and tested the Travel Charme Fürstenhaus am Achensee.

We arrive at the hotel around noon and are immediately greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and delicious chocolates. Since our room isn’t ready yet, we ask reception about bike tours. The Achensee (Lake Achen) is a very popular excursion destination for cyclists – there are accordingly many possibilities. But it quickly became clear to us that we would choose the bike tour to the Gern Alm through the Karwendel Nature Park, because there is a deer enclosure there!

We can borrow the e-bikes directly from the hotel for a small fee – a really great service! The journey takes about 40 minutes (including stops to explore the Karwendel Nature Park) until we finally arrive at the Gern Alm.

The absolute highlight here is definitely the deer enclosure. There is even a vending machine where you can buy food and feed the deer.

An incredible experience that we recommend if you are in the region!

But since we really want to go to the wellness area today, we drive straight back to the hotel.

When we got there, our room was already ready. We opted for a double room with a mountain view. The rooms are spacious and very modern, the bathroom is extremely spacious and the balcony with a view of the surrounding mountains is a dream come true.

But now it’s off to the wellness area. Since the weather is not quite playing along, we mainly stay indoors. It’s probably too cold for the lake today.

The water worlds of the over 3000 m2 wellness area are equipped with an indoor, outdoor and whirlpool. The whirlpool is located at the front of the hotel and promises a unique view of Lake Achen. At the back is the outdoor pool, here you can see the massive Tyrolean mountains in the area.

In addition, five saunas characterize the wellness offer of the Fürstenhaus. Every sauna-goer can kiss their hands here. The highlight, however, is definitely the panorama sauna, from which you can look directly at the lake and think you are floating above it.

After two hours of relaxation and rest, we head down to dinner. We also get this in the hotel’s own restaurant called Laurentius. The very modern equipped restaurant with huge glass fronts and lake view invites you to linger. The Laurentius is a real culinary treasure. In addition to an evening menu, you can also choose from an extensive à la carte menu.

Today we start with flamed arctic char from Upper Austria with beetroot, cucumber and chilli and the main course is salmon fillet with gremolata, tomato-cucumber and rice.

After the meal we enjoyed some cocktails in the Lounge Furisto.

Day 2 at the Lake Achen (Achensee)

After an extremely good night’s sleep (the beds in the Fürstenhaus am Achensee are incredibly comfortable), we go to breakfast. The buffet leaves nothing to be desired and offers not only regional hits but also a wide range of international delicacies.

Today we want to explore the area around the Fürstenhaus am Achensee. We set off with the hotel’s e-bikes and cycle along the lake. No matter from which angle you see the region: it is a gem from all sides.

Finally we arrive at the Rofan cable car. We noticed the cable car when we arrived, so we absolutely have to take it up the mountain. Normally you can even take your bike up the mountain, but unfortunately there is too much going on today. For € 22 per person you get a return trip. The Rofan cable car goes up and down every 15 minutes. After a short wait we are already in the cabin and drive to the mountain station. The journey also takes about 15 minutes and we are already at 1840 meters above sea level – an ideal starting point for many hikes.

We hike to the Gschöllkopf. The hike is a shorter one and not very difficult, so really suitable for everyone. In 35 minutes (the 45 is written) we are already at the summit, where a viewing platform with a 360-degree view awaits us.

After a short breather, we head back towards the mountain station and stop for a drink in the Erfurter Hütte. This was built by the German Alpine Club. Here too: incredible impressions of Lake Achen and the surrounding area.

Since the weather is getting better and better, we want to get back to the hotel as soon as possible. The Fürstenhaus am Achensee is the only hotel in Pertisau that has direct access to the lake – and we’re taking advantage of that today!

So we take the cable car back down to the valley and take the e-bikes back to the hotel. After a quick bite to eat in the guest garden, the time has come, today even with a lounger right on the jetty!

Most of the guests of the house are probably out and about, it seems as if you are almost alone in the wellness area. Pure relaxation!

As soon as we checked in, the staff pointed out that stand-up paddles could be borrowed from the spa reception. We’ve always wanted to try this, today is probably the day to do it!

We got the SUPs straight away and we could go straight into the water from the hotel’s jetty. A pure experience. Admittedly, it takes a little time to understand how to deal with these “things”. But once you get the hang of it, it’s extremely fun!

Tired from a very action-packed day, we go back to our room and get ready for dinner. Today we have reserved a table at Laurentius again.

But today there is something very classic: cordon bleu with salad from the salad buffet. We can’t do more today, we’re too tired from the day and go to bed at 9 p.m. 😉

Last day in the Fürstenhaus am Achensee

On the third and last day in the Fürstenhaus am Achensee, we only manage to enjoy breakfast. Unfortunately we have to leave early because work is calling again…

The holiday was one of the nicest we’ve ever had. We will always remember the hotel and the region. We’ll definitely be back – and if we do, then to the Fürstenhaus am Achensee!
