Short info:
- What is the natural stone bridge (Natursteinbrücke)? A naturally formed stone bridge in Kleinwalsertal
- Where exactly can you find it? On Google: 955F+H2 Riezlern
We make our way from the Ifen Hotel Kleinwalsertal to the natural stone bridge, said to be one of the highlights in the Kleinwalsertal. It takes about 20 minutes on foot, and you can get there by bike in about 8 minutes. Shortly before you reach your destination, drive along Wäldelestraße. On the left you can see the Au sports field, on the right a path that leads into the forest. You walk along this, parallel to the Schwarzwasser. After a few minutes you will come to a river with moss-covered stones and a small bridge. Before the bridge, turn right, after a few meters you will reach the natural stone bridge.
We had seen beautiful photos of the bridge online, with the roaring waterfall in the background, a pool bursting with water. The natural monument was created by the millennia-long erosive action of the Schwarzwasserbach through the expansion of existing rock fissures in Schrattenkalk.
Unfortunately, when we arrive, none of this can be seen. No trace of a waterfall and behind the bridge with a span of approx. 5 meters just a small puddle. We had imagined it a little differently. Well, you can’t always be lucky. There are other waterfalls in the area, but we’ll save that for the day. Nevertheless, the area is recommended for a short hike, maybe you will have better luck 😉
