Hohenwerfen Castle:
In the midst of the beautiful nature in Pongau, the 900-year-old Hohenwerfen Fortress is located in Werfen. As a former fortified castle, it stands high above the Salzburg Salzach Valley and offers a special cultural experience for young and old.
Hohenwerfen Castle lives up to its name as an adventure castle. There is a lot on offer, especially for families. In addition to daily castle tours, a knight's shop and various special exhibitions, the historic state falconry with daily falcon flight demonstrations is an absolute visitor magnet. The first Austrian falconry museum with a birds of prey educational trail can also be visited at the castle.
There is a lot for children to discover in the castle. With the help of an audio guide, children can learn more about the history of the castle. Adventurous discoveries await the children on the puzzle rally, where the secret of the shadow can be solved interactively. In the castle courtyard, there are numerous games for the little ones to enjoy. Activities such as stilt walking, ring throwing or bowling can be carried out freely all day long.
Hohenwerfen Castle also offers a wide range of special programs, such as fairy tale hikes, theater performances and traditional afternoons.
Special falconry programs and mystical nights make Hohenwerfen Castle interesting all year round.
Getting to the castle
Sports enthusiasts and nature lovers can make their way to the top on foot. The path leads around the rocky cone and is mostly in the shady forest. If you want to get to the upper courtyard of Hohenwerfen Castle a little more comfortably, you can take the passenger elevator.
