Located just a few kilometers north of Vienna, Kreuzenstein Castle is one of the most beautiful historical sights in Lower Austria and one of the most popular and well-known destinations for the whole family. The show castle or museum is open daily from April 1st to November 1st. With its unique collection, the castle allows visitors to experience the world of the Middle Ages up close.
The original medieval castle complex was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and then largely dismantled for building material. Under Count Johann Nepomuk Wilczek, the castle was rebuilt from 1874 to 1906 as a museum for his extensive art collections. The resulting show castle is now a popular tourist destination north of Vienna, supplemented by numerous reused medieval components and after partial repair of the fire damage from 1915 and the war damage from 1945.
You can see an armoury, a chapel, a knights’ hall, a prince’s room and a hunting chamber.
