Lake Leopoldstein in general
It is located at 628 m above sea level at the foot of the Seemauer in the western Hochschwab group, embedded in the mountains. The lake is 1400 meters long and 370 meters wide, its deepest point is 31 m. The lake is completely undeveloped and natural. There is only a small guest house at the car park (the Leopoldsteinerseestüberl) and another at the Seestüberl on the eastern shore of the lake.
On sunny days, the water surface shimmers emerald green. Speaking of sun: in summer, you can swim in the Natural bathing beaches into the lake, but the temperature reaches a maximum of 20°, as the lake is fed purely by spring water from the surrounding mountains.
In summer you can visit daily from 10 am to 6 pm Electric pedal boats and rowing boats For climbing fans there are several Via Ferrata in different levels of difficulty.
Around Lake Leopoldstein
We can only recommend this walk to everyone. It is very easy to manage, is flat for the most part, but is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
We walk anti-clockwise along the lake. Again and again you have views of the crystal clear water. After about 20 minutes you reach the Seestüberl on the eastern shore of the lake (the snack station of the Leopoldsteinerseestüberl at the car park). There isn't much choice here, but you can get drinks, ice cream, sandwiches, sausages and very tasty pastries. It's definitely worth a stop because the view is simply fantastic.
The path now becomes narrower and continues through the forest along the lake. You come across a few roots and every now and then it goes up and down over small hills. The view remains fantastically beautiful. If you don't take a break, you'll be back in about 45 minutes.
If you want, you can treat yourself to a snack in the Leopoldsteiner See Stüberl. There are various soups and home-style dishes such as Steierkasnock'n, roasted dumplings, schnitzel, Leopoldsteinersee toast with tender pieces of pork loin. The flagship dish, however, is the lake trout fried with parsley potatoes.
Lake Leopoldstein is definitely worth a visit!
