We park our car at the Lunzer See car park (address: Lunz a. See 13, 3293). 1.5 hours cost €2, up to 3 hours €4 and the day ticket €6.
The circular hiking trail starts diagonally opposite. Right at the beginning there is a boat rental, an ice cream shop and a souvenir shop.
It goes counterclockwise, we start at 13:00. Incidentally, the path is suitable for all-terrain prams, but cycling is prohibited. Dogs must be on a leash. It is first a concrete path, past properties, uphill. The paved path then turns into a narrow gravel path that goes downhill towards the lake again. This piece may be a bit more difficult with a stroller, but it is doable. It now goes along a narrow forest path, always about 10 meters above the lake shore.
The thicket rarely offers a really good view of the lake, but the hike through the beautiful forest is still an experience. From time to time small trails lead down to the shore, but since it was still raining in the morning, it’s too slippery for us.
After about half an hour you come down directly to the shore of the lake for the first time. You are now almost on the opposite broadside of the lake. We take a long break on a bench, have a picnic and enjoy the view.
We continue our circumnavigation, the path leads over a bridge and generously around the lake. Here we leave the narrow forest path.
From now on, the way back is unfortunately less attractive, as you now walk back along the entire length of the lake along the sidewalk of Seeuferstraße. If it wasn’t for the road, you would still have a beautiful view of meadows, lakes, forests and mountains. On the way back you will pass a free bathing area with a jetty in the lake, before you finally pass the seaside resort of Lunz am See almost at the end of the tour.
At 3:00 p.m. we arrive back at the parking lot, but before that we treat ourselves to an ice cream.
