Mayrhofen is the unofficial capital of the Zillertal. Here you can find everything a holidaymaker needs: bars, pubs, restaurants, 2 Spar supermarkets, Billa, souvenir shops, liquor stores, wine boutiques, butchers, cheese shops, sports shops, children's toys, BIPA, DM, gas station, etc. The whole thing is also cute and worth seeing. The main street is just perfect for strolling.
The city is known for its ski resorts. Ski lifts provide access to the slopes on the maple in the south. In the west, the Penken the steep slope “Harakiri” with an incredible 78 (!) percent gradient. This makes it the steepest ski slope in Austria! DThe cable car takes youDirectly from the main road to the mountain. Hiking trails lead to the Zimmereben guesthouse with views of the valley and the Ahorn mountain. Alpine birds of prey can be observed on the Ahorn Eagle Stage.
Penken mountain railway
It leads from the main street in Mayrhofen (Ahornstraße 853, 6290 Mayrhofen). The round trip costs 22.5€. The gondolas are huge and the ride up is a real experience in itself. Incidentally, you can not only hike on the Penken (even with a stroller), but also paraglide, climb, mountaineer, mountain bike and even toboggan down in winter.
The view of the Zillertal is overwhelming.
Ahornbahn
It was only put into operation in December 2006 and, with its 160-person cabins, is the largest cable car in Austria. The Ahorn impresses with wide carving slopes and is known for its winter hiking trails.
You can also experience fascinating moments in Europe's highest bird of prey station at 2,000 m. There is an eagle show with eagles, eagle owls, buzzards and falcons from July to September.
