The Mondsee, located in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut southwest of Lake Attersee, with its total area of 16.62 km² belongs to the municipality of the same name. The southern shore forms the border between Upper Austria and the state of Salzburg.
The “little brother” of Lake Mondsee is Lake Irrsee: these two lakes are the warmest in the Salzkammergut. You can do pretty much any sport on these lakes, whether swimming, golfing, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, tennis, fishing, diving or much more.
The Mondee is particularly popular with sailors. In summer, hundreds of boats of all sizes often gather here. However, as the winds can change very quickly here, it is advisable to seek advice in advance.
Hikers and climbers also get their money's worth in this area; the so-called Drachenwand is particularly popular.
