Picturesque Plansee: pure nature in the Tyrolean Alps

The Plansee is located in the district of Reutte. With an area of just under 3 km², it is the second largest natural lake in Tyrol.
Together with Lake Heiterwanger See, the lake is used as a storage facility by the Reutte electricity company, and one of the highest commercial shipping lines in Austria operates on Lake Plansee and Lake Heiterwanger See, offering round trips from the end of May until autumn. Boarding points are at the three hotels "Forelle", "Seespitze" and "Fischer am See".
In summer, the lake is used for swimming and various water sports such as surfing, sailing, diving and fishing, and in winter for ice skating and curling. In the village of the same name, Plansee (municipality of Breitenwang), there is a campsite, the "Forelle" hotel, an alpine pasture with a cheese dairy and restaurant as well as a scheduled boat landing stage.
