The Red Bull Ring is a motorsport racetrack in the municipality of Spielberg in Styria. It was opened in 1969 as the Österreichring and was known as the Austrian GP in Zeltweg in the 1970s. It was only from 1997 to 2003 that the circuit became the A1 Ring. After lengthy renovations, it was reopened on 15 May 2011.
Formula 1 races have been held here again since 2014. The Red Bull Ring has seven right-hand bends and three left-hand bends: a lap begins with a sharp right-hand bend leading uphill after the start, followed by the hairpin bend after the long uphill straight, the best overtaking opportunity. The cars have to slow down from over 320 km/h to 70 km/h here. A right-hand bend follows downhill, the two fast left-hand bends in the infield then merge into the two finish bends.
