Nevertheless, Rosegg the largest zoo in the Austrian province of Carinthia. The zoo, which initially served as a princely hunting ground, was founded by Peter Ritter von Bohr, who had the zoo wall built around the wooded slopes of a hilltop castle in 1830. This wall still forms the boundary of the zoo today.
The park is home to about 400 animals from 35 species spread over a large Deer meadow, an exotic and domestic animal area as well as the historic zoo are spread around the wooded mountain.
You can go for a wonderful walk here and watch the wildlife in the outdoor enclosures like Ibexes, peacocks or deer observe from close up.
The circular route leads through a beautiful forest and past a lake. Even if you don't see many animals on your path, the hike is worth the visit.
By the way, the path up to the castle ruins is not suitable for strollers, the rest is relatively easy to manage.
The tour ends (at the entrance) at a petting zoo, a special highlight for children. Here you can feed donkeys, llamas, goats, rabbits, kangaroos and more. Of course there is also a playground and a small buffet.
